Can You Keep Alocasia in a Dry Climate?
Keeping an Alocasia in a dry climate feels like a constant battle against crispy tips. These
plants naturally grow in rainforests with 70% humidity or higher, while the average home in
a dry climate might sit at 30%. However, it is possible to keep them happy without turning
your living room into a swamp.
The trick is localized humidity. Instead of trying to humidify the whole house, use a pebble
tray or group your Alocasias with other high-transpiration plants. Many growers have had
great success switching Alocasias to semi-hydroponics (using Leca or Pon). This provides a
constant source of moisture to the roots and increases the immediate humidity around the
foliage.
Another tip for dry climates: avoid misting the leaves. It doesn´t actually raise humidity for
more than a few minutes and can encourage fungal infections. Instead, invest in a small,
high-quality humidifier or a glass cloche for smaller specimens. For specialized substrates
