Multi-functional irrigation system
For our Bonanza cabinets we make special irrigation systems. These can be used in several ways as described below. By purchasing a 3 in 1 irrigation system you have one system that can be used in all 3 different ways. This way you can experiment to see which method best suits your cultivation project.
Irrigation systems can of course also be used in a grow tent or other grow room.
1. Drip irrigation system
Drip irrigation is very useful when you only grow a few larger plants in pots with soil. When used as drip system the supply pump is connected to a manifold with drippers. The pump is turned on and off by the Smartbox of your grow cabinet or a timer (not supplied) so that water is pumped to each individual plant on the grow tray. Water that leaks from underneath the pots flows back into the water tank.
2. Eb & flow irrigation
Whit an eb & flow system the supply pump is connected to the bottom of the grow tray on which the pots are placed .
When the pump is turned on a layer of water is pumped into the grow tray and the plants absorb the water through the holes in the bottom of the pots. When the pump is switched off again, the water flows by means of gravity back to the water tank under the table.
The drainage channels in the drip tray ensure that it dries up nicely after every watering and that the plants do not stand with their feet in a pool of water.
This system also works very well with textile pots found in our webshop.
3. Hydroponic system
Hydroponics means “growing plants in water”. With this method, the roots of the plants hang directly in a nutrient solution. No substrate is involved. So no more lugging bags of earth around.
With a hydroponic grow system, a container with a lid is pumped full with a nutrient solution. In the lid there are holes for the net cups in which the plants grow.
24 Hours per day water with nutrients is pumped from the water tank into the container. Once the water level in the grow tray rises above 4 cm it will drain back into the water tank. Using this grow technique the roots of your plant hang in a stream of constantly circulating water rich in oxygen and nutrients.
This type of system is more commonly known as “shallow water culture”. The system is very economical regarding water consumption and very user-friendly.
You only need to keep the water tank filled and add the correct amount of nutrients. It is highly recommended to use a PH/EC combi-meter to determine the exact amount of nutrients and acidity of the water.
When you want to clean the water tank it can be easily removed from the cabinet. This only needs to be done in between two harvests. During your grow cycle you only have to keep the water tank filled.
Via the bottom doors of your cabinet, you can easily fill the water tank using a watering can.
One of the advantages of working with this type of system is that you have far better control of how much nutrients you give your plants, giving you more control in the growth and flower phase. Another big advantage is that the whole growing and flowering phase is much shorter due to the 24 x 7 direct nutrient uptake via the roots from the water.
Most plant diseases are caused by fungus and bacteria that breed in potting soil. Working without a medium such as potting soil results in much less chance of plant diseases.
The system has a 36-liter water tank and comes with 2 air pumps and 4 air stones. When used as a drip or ebb and flow system, it is sufficient to use only 1 air pump. The air stones are placed in the water tank and they ensure that the nutrient water is supplied with oxygen and does not precipitate or spoil. When the 3-in-1 system is used as a hydro system, both air pumps are used. The 4 air stones are placed directly underneath the planting holes. This provides the roots with a lot of oxygen, resulting in a true explosion of biomass.
This automatic watering system is made especially for all Growbox Clima Cabinet 1m2 models.
In the system, there is a place for 8 to 10 plants.
